Frequent Commission Requests: Pet Portraits

  • What photos should I send you of my pet?

Please select three high quality photos of your pet, considering that the angle of the photos you send me will be the angles that I paint from. Feel free to choose a favorite moment with them, a favorite memory of them, or send an extra photo with a favorite toy that you would like included in the photo.

  • What if my pet passed away, and I don't have great photos?

Memorial portraits are my most popular request. I understand that sometimes we don't get the chance to take the perfect photo before we have to say goodbye. Please send the absolute best quality photos that you have, with good lighting, and we can work together on creating an accurate portrait of them!

  • What else should I include in my request?

Please include the following in your pet portrait request:

    • Three high quality, well-lit photos
    • Any important elements of the photos you would like included in the painting
    • A short story about your pet to help me capture their spirit through paint
    • Any colors that you would prefer to see in the piece
    • What style you would prefer to see most in the painting: abstract, realism, or a combination.

Commission Pricing Guidelines

Commissions start with a $150 minimum, regardless of medium or size.

The pricing guideline is as follows. Prices are based on $1.75 per square inch and are subject to change depending on the complexity of your piece. The following price points are standard available canvas sizes.

  • 8in. x 10in. and under = $150 (+ tax)
  • 9in. x 12in. = $190 (+ tax)
  • 12in. x 12in. = $250 (+ tax)
  • 11in. x 14in. = $270 (+ tax)
  • 12in. x 16in. = $335 (+ tax)
  • 16in. x 20in. = $560 (+ tax)
  • 18in. x 24in. = $755 (+ tax)
  • Completion Times

Completion timelines range! I have finished pieces in as quickly as one day, and I have finished pieces after several months (even years). I am transparent and straightforward about this. If you need a project done by a deadline, please let me know when submitting your request. If I cannot create a piece within your desired due date, I am happy to connect you to other local artists!

All pieces are allowed to dry and cure for three days before any varnish can be applied. Varnish is included in cost, but is optional.

All finished pieces are equipped with a hanging wire (or a sawtooth hanger for miniature or small pieces).

  • Deposits and Contracts

To establish mutual trust, all commission agreements require a 50% non-refundable deposit, with a signed contract outlining the following:

    • The project overall, including specific requests.
    • Due dates
    • Revision allowances
    • The deposit due and total payment amount(s) due, and their respective dates
    • What happens if a contract is voided by either party
  • Copyright and Licensing

Please be aware that any reproduction of a commission (or any art piece) is a violation of copyright. You may not sell the image I created for you as your own or reproduce it for sale without either my express consent or without purchasing the rights or paying royalty fees. These are two separate agreements (and purchases). If you are interested in commissioning artwork for something that requires reproducing the image, please contact me directly.
